Infinity

Here’s a little story about infinity:
I was once a little fish swimming in the vast sea.
All I knew was shallow waters and the piercing sun rays.
Swimming with my shoal was how I’d go about my days.
Then one day I was swallowed whole by a bigger fish.
Everything I ever knew was gone as I became a dish
for a sea creature I then became. Overwhelmed, I pondered
how it’s possible, and so in search of answers I then wandered
much, much deeper waters than I was used to in the past,
till a shark came and devoured me in seconds; so, so fast.
With time I learned this shark I was eaten by was me,
but see, since this is a story about infinity,
it doesn’t end here; you might wonder what is next.
The simple transformation that then happened is complex.
I became a whale; left my shark body behind.
All alone beneath the surface of the waters I would find
myself often lost in the beauty of my songs,
until I became the sea to which each sea creature belongs.
The lesson here is subtle and the metaphor quite strange,
but I just hope you’re not a little fish that is afraid of change.

Freedom to Hear

Slavery they used to preach,
and so came the need for freedom of speech.
We all stood up and raised our voices.
Free we were to make those choices.
Now, in times like these, it’s clear
that what we need is freedom to hear;
Hear each other in conversation;
Hear the pain; the devastation.
People talk but seldom listen.
Look around! There simply isn’t
any love left in the air.
Ask someone and they won’t care.

The World of Circumstances

A victim in the world of circumstances.
The stage is set; the plot advances.
Meanwhile, the ego’s lust enhances
visions of a dozen dances
with the devil who romances
with your heart inside these stanzas.

Taken in, aloof suggestions
block out all potential questions.
Who’s to say that his intentions
are not riddled with pretensions?
To transcend the ill dimensions
of his guile leads to abstentions.
